On 30 September 2026, the HEI GreenPath project – Shaping HEI environment for a sustainable tomorrow officially came to an end. After two years of cooperation, meetings, joint development of educational materials, pilot activities and exchange of experience, the project leaves behind a set of practical resources designed to support higher education institutions in becoming more sustainable.
HEI GreenPath brought together five higher education institutions from Poland, Cyprus, Greece, Slovenia and Malta: University College of Enterprise and Administration in Lublin (WSPA), Frederick University, Agricultural University of Athens, International School for Social and Business Studies (ISSBS) and Pegaso International Higher Education Institution.
Throughout the project, the partnership focused on an important question: how can green skills and sustainability become a practical part of university education and everyday institutional life?
From ideas to practical solutions
The project was designed not only to raise awareness of sustainability, but also to provide universities with concrete tools that can be used in practice.
Among the key results developed within HEI GreenPath are:
- Guidelines for HEI staff supporting the integration of green skills into study programmes;
- teaching content and materials enabling green skills to be incorporated into university courses;
- a brochure for students, encouraging more sustainable choices and greater environmental awareness;
- a brochure for HEI staff, presenting practical ideas for making everyday university activities and practices more sustainable;
- tools supporting reflection, evaluation and further development of green competences.
An important part of the project was also the practical testing of developed solutions. Partners worked with students and university staff, collected feedback and used it to improve the project materials and approaches.
Two years of partnership and exchange
HEI GreenPath was also about cooperation between institutions with different backgrounds and experiences.
During the project, partners met both online and face-to-face, shared examples from their universities, discussed challenges and jointly developed solutions that could be adapted to different higher education contexts. Project meetings in Cyprus, Poland and Greece created additional opportunities for exchange, while regular online cooperation ensured continuous progress throughout the project.
The final partnership meeting, held at the Agricultural University of Athens in September 2026, was an opportunity to review the achievements of the project, discuss its impact and agree on how its results will continue to be used after the formal end of HEI GreenPath.
The project ends, but its results continue
The formal completion of HEI GreenPath does not mean the end of the work started within the project.
The partners intend to continue using the developed materials, integrating green skills into teaching and sharing the project results with students, academic and administrative staff and other higher education institutions.
One of the newest project outputs is the HEI GreenPath brochure for university staff, which provides practical recommendations and examples of how sustainability can be incorporated into the everyday functioning of higher education institutions. We especially encourage university staff, teachers, administrators and decision-makers to explore and use this resource.
All HEI GreenPath materials remain available through the project website and can be freely used by institutions interested in strengthening green skills and sustainability in higher education.
Thank you for two years of cooperation
The completion of the project is also a good moment to thank all partners for their commitment, professionalism, openness and excellent cooperation throughout the past two years.
HEI GreenPath has shown that meaningful change in higher education can begin with practical, manageable actions – in the classroom, in university procedures and in the everyday choices of students and staff.
The project is ending, but the ideas, resources and partnerships developed through HEI GreenPath will continue to support the transition towards greener and more sustainable higher education.
